North Lauderdale Basketball Rules
|
All rules, unless otherwise modified in this Rule Book, will be based on
High School Basketball (FHSAA) rules. Officials are instructed to apply
rules & procedures in a safe, age and skill level appropriate manner.

Time & Clock
(2) - 20 minute halves.
Running Clock - (Clock runs without stopping)
Except for the Last 2 Minutes of each half and Over-Time Period(s)
Time Outs - (3) per half - No carry over
Over-Times - (3) minutes each Time-Outs
(1) Time Out per overtime. |
Substitutions
Players (substitution) must check in at the scorer's table and wait to be signaled by the referee.
Failure to do so will result in a technical foul.
Player Time
Every player must play at least 10 minutes. |
Rules
1) Back Court Rule:
Offense has 10 seconds to bring ball into the front court.
Penalty: Loss of Possession - Throw-In at Mid-Court
2) Alternating Possession
All tie-ups or jump balls (other than to start the game) resort to the possession arrow to
determine team possession.
3) A player fouls out on his or her 5th personal foul.
4) Teams will shoot "THE BONUS"...
One to One, beginning with the seventh (7th) team foul of each half.
(2) shots for "Double Bonus" beginning with the tenth (10th) team foul of the half.
5) Technical Fouls are extremely discouraged and result in 2 free throws & possession
of the ball. |
This league will be comprised of children 7 years to 16 years old.
Division 1: Ages 7-9 Division 2: Ages 10-12 Division 3: Ages 13-16
Rule Modifications Division 1 & Division 2 only
A) No Full Court Press, except for the last 2 minutes of each Half or overtime.
Once the Offense has possession of the ball, Defense must not actively defend until
both the ball & Player feet have crossed the mid-court line.
Penalty: Loss of Possession - Opponent Throw-In at Mid Court
Note: The third (3rd) back court defense violation, per half, will result in a Technical Foul.
The Opponent will receive 2 free throws and possession at Mid-Court. (Restart with Throw-In)
B) 5 Seconds Rule "In the Paint"
Penalty: Opponent Throw-In at Baseline
(Division 3: Ages 13-16 - Open court FCP & 3 Second Rule the entire game) |
First 5 Minutes of the 1st & 2nd halves.
During the 1st (5) minutes of both halves, only the youngest and inexperienced players
(or other designated players) will be allowed to start the game.
Note: For the purpose of this rule, Coaches will receive a copy of every teams roster,
listing the designated starters for each team. In the absence of one of those
designated players, you will have alternates designated to start, and they will also
be identified on the roster. |
The Score
A) The official score book is the official record of the score.
The running score in the book is the official record, regardless of any discrepancy
between the running score, individual totals, or the scoreboard.
B) To correct an error by the score keeper, a coach must request a time out, before the
ball becomes live, following the first dead ball after the error. If an error is found, a
Time-Out will NOT be charged/recorded. |
Coaches
One coach may stand during live ball.
All Coaches and teammates, not in active play, must be seated on their respective benches
during all live balls. Failure to do so may result in a technical foul.
Coaches are responsible for their Spectator's conduct. |
We are stressing sportsmanship here. All players MUST shake hands
after each game, or be subject to discipline from the Parks and Recreation Department
Any questions or discrepancies concerning the rules need to be addressed in the form of
a written report.

Ejections
Any player or coach ejected from a game is automatically suspended from his team's
next (2) games. Future playing status of repeat offenders will be decided upon by the
Parks and Recreation Director. Decisions of the Parks and Recreation Director are final.
Sportsmanship Good sportsmanship must be displayed at all times.
Any player showing unsportsmanlike or disorderly conduct, may be suspended or barred
from the league, based on the cause and severity of the incident.
Fighting is a flagrant foul which; will result in banishment from the gym and expulsion
from the program.
>>> Two (2) technical fouls called on one player or manager, will result in the guilty party
automatically being ejected from the game & Suspended from the next (2) games.
>>> Two (2) ejections in one season may result in permanent Suspension from all athletic
programs run by the Parks and Recreation Department. |
The possession or use of alcoholic beverages or illegal substances is strictly forbidden.
Violation of this rule will result in automatic ejection from the league. |
